ironman u certification is based on three value-related coaching areas.

Each of the three IRONMAN U coach certification levels is based on coach education (as evidenced by certifications achieved), certified coaching experience (as evidenced by athlete coached), and coach engagement in collaborative initiatives to grow the coaching community and our sport as a whole.

IRONMAN U Certification Courses

IRONMAN U LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATION (Available Now)

18-20 hours of coursework

Level 1 Certification focuses on coaching IQ, or Intelligence Quotient. It covers the essentials of triathlon coaching and includes a final exam. The course delivers in-depth knowledge of training principles, exercise physiology, sports nutrition, sport psychology, strength and conditioning, along with swim, bike, and run mechanics and more.

Upon course completion, you are eligible to participate in the Coaching Excellence Program which offers curriculum related to growing your business and in professionally facilitated small, peer groups to sharpen your coaching skills, solve problems, push thinking, and celebrate your successes.

IRONMAN U LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATION (Available in 2025)

14-16 hours of coursework plus 8 one-hour live sessions

Level 2 Certification focuses on coaching EQ, or Emotional Intelligence. To achieve this level of certification a coach must complete both IRONMAN U Level 1 and Level 2 Certification coursework, have 1,000 hours or more of certified coaching experience, and be TriDot Pool School Certified*. Level 2 Certification coursework is a small-group, instructor-led live, virtual course consisting of eight (8) sessions (two per month).

These sessions will develop your ability to understand and apply highly effective strategies to leverage your emotional intelligence as you collaborate with athletes to guide and shape their thinking, behaviors, and mindsets.

Registration for the IMU L2 course will open in 2025.

IRONMAN U LEVEL 3 CERTIFICATION

Accumulate additional experience and specialty certifications

Level 3 Certification does not require additional "level 3" specific coursework. Rather, it requires 5,000 hours or more of certified coaching experience and active engagement in collaborative initiatives to grow the coaching community and our sport as a whole.
